Children's Diet in Malaysia.
The Malaysian diet is famous the world over for its coconut milk spicy curries. Coconut milk, along with clarified butter and sugar cane are also popular ingredients in many Malaysian dishes.
The current trend now, although not nationwide, is to replace coconut milk with nutritious soya milk, brown rice is also finding its way into our diet and greens are becoming a more prominent ingredient. As restaurants are popping up everywhere, chefs in food-mad Malaysia, an Asian gastronomic heaven, are reinventing local cuisine due to a sharp jump in cases of obesity, diabetes and strokes.
Generally people in Malaysia are eating more, and eating higher-calorie foods.
The evidence points to an overwhelming influence of westernization, providing Malaysia with copious amounts of fast food chains and processed foods containing refined carbohydrates and high levels of animal protein. This in turn is leading us to
a higher level of inactivity resulting in a rise of obesity and cardiovascular diseases.
So enough with the negative stuff!
Let’s take a look at everyday meals we consume: Fish figures highly in our daily diet which is a huge source of essential omega oils – a big bonus point, leafy local vegetables provide us with vitamins and minerals. Throw into the mix the variety of fruits available and we have a lot of the daily nutrition we require in an everyday meal, however it’s the balance between vitamins, minerals and carbohydrates that needs addressing. Taking one less spoonful of rice and one more portion of vegetables is a tiny step with big rewards over time. This will also result in more long term energy, zest for life and less health complications.
Give it a try, & good luck.
