EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT AND NUTRITION

The Importance Of Milk For Our Children

Children depend on milk from a very young age. Milk is a fundamental source of
nutrients essential for growth and brain development. The most important mineral
children gain from milk is Calcium. Calcium is one of the key minerals children
need, and is easily absorbed by their bodies. Calcium is responsible for the growth
of strong bones and teeth.

Others than milk, Calcium is also found in other resources such as fish
(sardine, anchovies), cheese, yogurt, tauhu, beans and green leafy vegetables.
To ensure the development of strong bones and teeth, parents need to provide a variety of these foods for their children. Research shows that different foods contain different nutrients and other healthy substances. There is no
single food that contains all the nutrients our bodies require on a daily basis.

Besides Calcium, milk contains others minerals and vitamins like Vitamin A, Vitamin B (Riboflavin, Niacin, B6 and B12), Vitamin C, Zinc, Phosphorous and Magnesium. In addition, milk also contains Proteins which are important for building, maintaining and repairing tissue damage. Proteins are used to make red blood cells, red blood cells act as a carrier supplying oxygen to every part of our body.

In our body, proteins are broken down in to simple components, known as amino acids. There are about twenty two essential amino acids required for human health. From these twenty two, thirteen are made by our own bodies, while the other nine are consumed via protein-rich foods. Protein from milk is called Complete Protein because it contains all nine of the essential amino acids. We need energy to do all types of activities and Carbohydrates help us to gain the energy we need. In milk, the Carbohydrates are in the form of simple sugars and can be easily digested by the human body.

Fat is an important part of a healthy diet. Our children need a certain amount of fat in order to assist the development
of their brain and nervous system. Other than that, fats help us to absorb certain vitamins such as Vitamin B and C. Fats are also the building blocks for hormones, insulating the nervous systems in our body.

As children grow their brains develop rapidly, most of our brain cells are made from essential fats. In the current market a lot of milk products add Omega 3 and 6 in order to assist in the development of our children’s brain. With good brain development, brain cells will rapidly connect with each other and thus promoting and enhancing their learning process. Milk is easy to prepare and can be consumed anytime our children wish, providing a huge nutritional boost. So encourage your children to drink up and gain all the benefits they need.
