In episode 9 of Nufamili, we will discuss the
problems that working parents face when
managing 2 or more children in a family.
In this episode, we will be given advice from
Ms Cheong Sau Kuan, Clinical Psychologist from
Sunway College. According to Ms Cheong Sau
Kuan, working parents should spend at least
10 minutes each day, with each child either
talking or playing with them, even if they are
tired from work. It would also be beneficial for
parents to work together, to uncover effective
techniques in managing their children so that they are effectively disciplined and develop into independent individuals. Here are some Smart Immune Tips from Mr Saiful and Ms Eliza;
- Instructions given to children must be short and concise.
- Praise children when they have completed chores well.
- Parents should be calm and in control of the situation when giving instructions.
- During reading activities, avoid asking questions.
- ‘Time out’ techniques are best in defusing a difficult situation with children.
Getting children to listen and carry out instructions given by parents is the first step to managing them. Parents should always be firm, while ensuring that children are loved and given sufficient attention. This will ensure that children feel valued and loved.
